A New TCP-Friendly Rate Control Algorithm for Scalable Video Streams

چکیده
This paper presents Mediaand TCP-Friendly Rate Control Algorithm (i.e. MTFRC) for scalable video streams. We develop a twotimescale approach to satisfy media friendliness in the short-term, while maintaining TCP friendliness in the long-term. We evaluate MTFRC with five criteria, namely TCP-fairness, responsiveness, aggressiveness, video quality and smoothness of sending rate. Our simulation results manifest that MTFRC outperforms the TCP-Friendly Rate Control Protocol (TFRC) and improves the overall video quality.

Optimal TCP-Friendly Rate Control for P2P Streaming: An Economic Approach
TCP and TCP-friendly rate control protocols, designed for unicast, do not take neighbor connections into account in P2P networks. In this paper, we study the topic of distributed and optimal rate control for scalable video streams in P2P streaming applications. First, we propose a fully distributed and TCPfriendly network analytical model for rate control and formulate an optimization problem t...
متن کاملOptimizing Rate Control for Multiple Fine-granular Scalable Video Streams
MPEG-4 FGS is a promising coding method for video streaming over the Internet. We consider the problem of allocating rates to multiple FGS sources with the goal to optimize the global video quality of all streaming sources. For this, we construct an analytical model of the target system and develop an FGS video streaming rate control algorithm (FSRC). Preliminary results show that the video qua...

This paper presents a Mediaand TCP-Friendly Rate-based Congestion Control algorithm (MTFRCC) for scalable video streaming in the Internet. The algorithm integrates two new techniques: (i) the use of a utility-based model for the target system combined with the rate-distortion function as the application utility measure for optimizing the overall video quality; and (ii) a two-timescale approach ...
متن کاملRAP: An End-to-End Rate-Based Congestion Control Mechanism for Realtime Streams in the Internet
End-to-end congestion control mechanisms have been critical to the robustness and stability of the Internet. Most of today’s Internet traffic is TCP, and we expect this to remain so in the future. Thus, having “TCP-friendly” behavior is crucial for new applications. However, the emergence of non-congestion-controlled realtime applications threatens unfairness to competing TCP traffic and possib...
متن کاملA Full-Fuzzy Rate Controller for Variable Bit Rate Video
In this paper, we propose a new full-fuzzy video ratecontrol algorithm (RCA) for variable bit rate (VBR) videoapplications. The proposed RCA provides high qualitycompressed video with a low degree computational complexity.By controlling the quantization parameter (QP) on a picturebasis, it produces VBR video bit streams. The proposed RCAhas been implemented on the JM H.264/AVC video codec andth...
